Fatal Columbia County car crash death of Robin Purcell – Obituary

Five individuals perished in a tragic collision on Highway 60, as identified by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday. The incident, resembling a near head-on crash, unfolded when a 17-year-old girl from Merrimac, at the wheel of a 2006 Lincoln sedan, veered across the center line. Her vehicle collided with a 2014 Chevy pickup truck, driven by Robin Purcell, aged 70, hailing from Prairie Du Sac.

The 17-year-old’s identity remains undisclosed due to her minor status. Among the passengers in the Lincoln were Shain Scoville, aged 42, from Merrimac, Kaiyzer Ballweg, aged 26, from Sauk City, and Julie Scoville, aged 62, from Blue Mounds. Tragically, all individuals involved in the crash met their demise.

Investigators noted that failure to utilize headlights and the absence of seatbelts contributed to the severity of the accident. Additionally, the collision occurred during rainfall, although it remains uncertain if weather conditions directly influenced the event.

As inquiries into the incident persist, law enforcement officials emphasize the importance of wearing seatbelts and activating headlights, especially in circumstances where weather conditions or time of day impair visibility.
