Fatal Nashville crash claims life of Kevonta Lane – Obituary
In a tragic turn of events on Wednesday morning, Kevonta Lane, aged 19, met his demise in a crash along Interstate 24. The Metro Nashville Police Department disclosed that the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. close to the Harding Place exit.
Reports indicate that while traveling westward, the driver lost control of the vehicle, careening off the interstate and colliding into a wooded area, ultimately coming to a halt in the grassy vicinity behind the 500 block of Metroplex Drive.
The aftermath of the crash prompted the closure of I-24, causing disruptions in the early hours. Surveillance footage captured a vehicle pulling into a nearby parking lot shortly after Lane’s car came to rest. Inside were two individuals who approached Lane’s vehicle before returning to their own. The footage shows them assessing the damage before departing the scene.
At approximately 4 a.m., a relative received a call from an unidentified person alerting them to the crash. Using GPS, she located the vehicle and promptly notified law enforcement. MNPD is actively seeking the occupants of the vehicle who were present at the scene of the crash.
Investigations revealed that Lane was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. Initial assessments suggest that speed and failure to maintain the lane of travel may have contributed to the crash.
