Fatal Lake Ontario jet ski crash death of Melanie Ramos-Lopez – Obituary

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the woman who perished in a jet ski accident on Lake Ontario this past weekend was Melanie Ramos-Lopez.

Melanie Ramos-Lopez, 31, a resident of Rochester, was riding on a jet ski with another person when the watercraft overturned approximately three-quarters of a mile west of the Irondequoit Bay Inlet at around 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, police reported. Multiple local agencies, including the MCSO marine unit and the U.S. Coast Guard, responded to the incident.

Responders found the overturned jet ski and a male rider, who was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. After an extensive search lasting nearly an hour, the U.S. Coast Guard found Ramos-Lopez and transported her to the hospital in critical condition. Sadly, she passed away shortly thereafter, according to authorities.

“Our sympathies are with her family and friends during this difficult time of grief,” stated sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Brendan Hurley.

The incident is still under investigation.
