Fatal Camp Pendleton traffic accident claims the life of Jess Davis – Obituary

On Friday, Navy officials released the identities of two sailors who perished in an early morning traffic collision on southbound Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton.

The identity of a third motorcyclist who also died in the crash on Thursday morning has not yet been disclosed.

The deceased sailors are Jess Davis, 38, from Tennessee, and Stephen Williams, 37, from Texas. Davis was stationed on the attack submarine USS Alexandria, based in Point Loma, while Williams served at the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center in San Diego, according to Navy spokesperson Brian O’Rourke.

The victims were among a group of four motorcyclists who collided with vehicles involved in a freeway pileup near Las Pulgas Road around 3 a.m.

The pileup started when a Jeep Wrangler struck a guardrail and then crashed into a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, causing the van to overturn. The motorcyclists subsequently collided with one or both of the disabled vehicles.

Davis, Williams, and the third motorcyclist died at the scene.
