Fatal Shelby Township shooting death of Michael William Nash – Obituary

Authorities have identified the individual responsible for the tragic incident at a Rochester Hills splashpad in mid-June, releasing a photograph of the suspect. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, 42-year-old Michael William Nash took his own life with a firearm at his mother’s residence in Shelby Township, where he resided.

In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators recovered a 9mm pistol along with three empty magazines. Despite having no prior criminal record, Nash was reported to have been grappling with mental health issues, Sheriff Michael Bouchard disclosed.

The incident unfolded at Brooklands Splash Pad just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, when Nash arrived and began indiscriminately firing shots at individuals enjoying the facilities. His barrage of approximately 28 gunshots struck nine victims, whose ages ranged from 4 to 78 years old.

One of the victims, an 8-year-old boy who was initially in critical condition, has since been discharged from the hospital as of Friday. However, a 39-year-old woman from Rochester Hills, who sustained serious injuries while shielding her children during the attack, remains hospitalized, as does a 30-year-old woman also seriously injured in the incident.
