Fatal Howell shooting death of Sean Thompson – Obituary

Authorities have identified the man discovered deceased from a gunshot wound inside a downtown Howell establishment on Friday, June 28.

Responding to a report of threats, Howell Police Department officers arrived at Metro Studios Ink located at 104 W. Grand River Ave. just before 5:30 p.m. on Friday. They found 46-year-old Sean Thompson of Howell, who had succumbed to his injuries.

In a statement released on Saturday, HPD clarified conflicting details surrounding the incident. According to the police, Thompson had been causing a disturbance on the premises prior to the shooting. There had been ongoing disputes between Thompson and the business staff.

Despite initial reports suggesting Thompson was armed with a knife, HPD stated there is no current evidence to support this claim. However, threats of violence were reportedly made, prompting the suspect to fire a single shot that fatally struck Thompson.

The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed, but they were apprehended and taken into custody on the day of the incident, being lodged in Livingston County Jail.

HPD emphasized that the shooting did not occur in proximity to Balloonfest and was unrelated to the event in any manner.
