Fatal Utah County plane crash death of Larry Irwin Kellogg of Springville – Obituary
Larry Irwin Kellogg, 49, from Springville, tragically lost his life in a plane crash in Utah County over the weekend. The incident, which occurred shortly after takeoff from Spanish Fork Airport on Sunday, has left Kellogg’s family devastated. His older sister, Stephanie Johnson, described him as meticulous and dedicated to flying, suggesting that a medical emergency may have been the cause.
“He was very careful in his flying, he was very meticulous,” Johnson said, reflecting on Kellogg’s passion for aviation, which he had resumed pursuing after a hiatus following personal challenges. Kellogg’s return to flying came after the loss of his wife to cancer in 2019 and his recovery from a serious heart attack.
“He says, ‘I don’t want to live like I’m afraid,'” Johnson recounted of Kellogg’s decision to embrace his passion for flying again.
In the days leading up to the crash, Kellogg had been actively flying with family members, including trips to Texas with his daughters and siblings. Johnson expressed shock over the accident but relief that Kellogg was alone in the plane and no one else was injured.
“He said he wasn’t afraid of dying, he just didn’t want to live in fear,” Johnson recalled of Kellogg’s outlook on life.
Kellogg’s mother, Inga Kellogg, expressed gratitude that no other family members were involved in the crash, despite her initial shock upon hearing the news.
The incident is currently being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Details regarding Kellogg’s flight path and the circumstances leading to the crash are still under review.
