A man lost his life early Wednesday morning in a shooting incident at an apartment complex located off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Identified as Adam Abdur-Rahman, aged 37, he was discovered by Chapel Hill police responding to a 911 call around 1:04 a.m. outside a building near 123 Ashley Forest Road, situated north of downtown, according to a press statement.
Abdur-Rahman sustained gunshot wounds and was swiftly transported to UNC Hospitals, where he succumbed to his injuries. Later in the day, authorities apprehended Mario Chrishunn Thompson, a resident of the same apartment complex.
Thompson, aged 45 and hailing from Chapel Hill, faces charges of first-degree murder along with two counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property, as detailed in the official release.
Currently detained at the Orange County Detention Center without bail, Thompson is slated for an initial appearance in Orange County Superior Court at 2 p.m. Thursday.
The Chapel Hill police have characterized the incident at the Tyler Creek (formerly Ashley Forest) apartment complex as an “isolated incident,” emphasizing that the investigation remains ongoing.
