A 16-year-old resident of New Rochelle, Aidan Galeano, tragically lost his life in a car accident on Saturday, according to authorities. Police had been waiting for dental records to formally identify Aidan, who had recently completed his sophomore year at Iona Prep. The New Rochelle community has been deeply saddened by the loss of Aidan, known affectionately as “Stix” for his passion for baseball.
Aidan was a cherished member of the New Rochelle Little League and various travel tournament teams, where his love for sports shone brightly. He harbored aspirations of becoming a firefighter, a dream noted in his obituary.
The fatal incident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday when the 2019 Honda Accord he was driving traveled eastbound on Wilmot Road at a high speed. The vehicle veered into the Golden Horseshoe Shopping Center, colliding with a metal light post and concrete footing, according to law enforcement officials. Aidan’s cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma and smoke inhalation. Authorities are still awaiting the results of the toxicology report.
According to DMV records, Aidan only possessed a learner’s permit at the time of the accident.
Family and friends, including his parents, Frank and Liz, and his sister, Kayla, will gather on Thursday to celebrate Aidan’s life at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Aidan’s memory can be made to the New Rochelle Little League or the Eastchester Blue Devils.
