Fatal Benton vehicle crash death of Donald Ward of Benton – Obituary
On July 4th, the Louisiana State Police received reports of an accident involving a truck and a man riding a lawnmower at his home.
According to the Louisiana State Police (LSP), the collision happened on Louisiana Highway 3, north of Kingston Road. Troop G’s initial investigation revealed that the victim was operating a zero-turn lawnmower in his yard.
The incident occurred as “a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 48-year-old Mark Foy of Benton, was towing an empty flatbed trailer northbound on Louisiana Highway 3.
“During the northbound travel, the trailer became detached from the truck, left the roadway, and struck Ward. Troopers found that the trailer was not properly secured to the Chevrolet.”
The LSP reported that 66-year-old Donald Ward of Benton sustained severe injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Foy, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured.
On July 14th, Troop G was informed that Ward had passed away from his injuries.
The news release mentioned that Foy is not suspected of being impaired; however, routine toxicology samples were collected and sent for analysis.
The crash is still under investigation.
