Fatal Cleveland shooting death of Jaylon Jennings – Obituary

Jaylon Jennings, accused in a shooting incident in Cleveland’s Warehouse District, entered a plea of no contest to multiple charges just before his scheduled trial on Wednesday morning.

According to court records, Jennings was subsequently convicted on charges including attempted murder, felonious assault, possession of weapons while under disability, grand theft, and receiving stolen property.

Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley expressed, “What was meant to be an enjoyable evening in Downtown Cleveland turned into a harrowing experience for these nine individuals and numerous others on West 6th Street. It’s truly fortunate that no lives were lost and more people weren’t hurt. Gun violence continues to afflict our community. This plea serves as a clear message that such violence is unacceptable, and we will ensure accountability for violent offenders in our county.”

Jennings’ sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m.

CASE DETAILS
The shooting incident, which left nine injured, occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 9, on West 6th Street near Johnson Court in downtown Cleveland.

Law enforcement reports indicate that Jennings and Kevin Del Valle-Salaman departed from Rumor Bar and Lounge around 2 a.m. to access Del Valle-Salaman’s parked car nearby. Allegedly, Jennings retrieved a firearm, returned to West 6th Street, and waited for some victims to exit the bar.

Jennings purportedly opened fire into a crowd before fleeing the scene. The victims, aged between 23 and 38, all survived the shooting.

Jennings was arrested in July last year on multiple charges, including:

– Nine counts of attempted murder
– 18 counts of felonious assault
– Two counts of possessing a weapon while under disability
– One count of grand theft
– One count of receiving stolen property

A native of Lorain, Jennings is currently held on a $9 million bond after pleading not guilty in July 2023.

Del Valle-Salaman had previously pleaded guilty to charges of evidence tampering and obstructing justice. His sentencing is scheduled for a later date.
