Fatal Elgin shooting death of Joseph Stancyzk – Obituary

A deadly altercation in Elgin ended with one person dead and another in police custody following what authorities believe was a road rage incident.

According to the Elgin Police Department, the incident unfolded shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday along East U.S. 290, near County Line Road, prompting a 911 call reporting a disturbance and gunfire.

Responding officers discovered Joseph Stancyzk, who had succumbed to a gunshot wound at the scene. Police swiftly apprehended Fabian Salas, 34, who now faces charges of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting.

Initial reports from authorities indicated that a confrontation erupted between two individuals who had exited their vehicles, culminating in gunfire. Investigators noted that there was no apparent prior acquaintance between the victim and the suspect.

Elgin police confirmed that Salas has been placed under arrest and is currently being held at Travis County Jail. As of Wednesday afternoon, details regarding his bond status remained pending.
