Fatal SW Loop 410 crash claims the life of Paul Anthony Goodson of Bexar County – Obituary
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man killed in last Friday’s fiery crash on SW Loop 410 as 36-year-old Paul Anthony Goodson.
Goodson was driving south on SW Loop 410 near Medina Base Road when the incident occurred. According to Sgt. Michael Moore of the San Antonio Police Department, witnesses reported that Goodson’s vehicle may have crossed the barrier and entered the northbound lanes.
Once on the opposite side of the highway, Goodson’s car collided with the rear axle of an 18-wheeler, was dragged by the trailer, and then burst into flames. The impact caused the car to split in two, leaving parts of it scattered near the bridge. The wreckage was so extensive that authorities couldn’t immediately identify the make and model of the vehicle.
Remarkably, a single car seat within the debris appeared untouched by the flames and collision. The driver of the 18-wheeler was unharmed and cooperated fully with the investigation, stopping his truck approximately 200 yards from the scene.
Witness Gilda Vasquez-Ramos, who watched the aftermath from a nearby car repair shop, noted that the area frequently sees accidents but had never witnessed one so severe. Vasquez-Ramos shared that she has had close calls with distracted drivers in the past, often due to phone use or reckless driving.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash and whether Goodson may have suffered a medical episode or been distracted at the time.
