Six Guests Die in Suspected Cyanide Poisoning at Bangkok Luxury Hotel
Obituary: Fatal Bangkok Luxury Hotel Cyanide Poisoning Death of Six Guests
Thai authorities disclosed on Wednesday that six individuals, including two American dual nationals, perished under suspicious circumstances at an upscale hotel in Bangkok, likely due to cyanide poisoning. The victims, comprising three Vietnamese men and three Vietnamese women aged between 37 and 56, were discovered deceased in a room at the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel after they failed to check out on schedule.
According to Lt. Gen. Thiti Sangsawang of the Bangkok Police, initial investigations found traces of cyanide in the victims’ teacups, a tea flask, and one of the deceased men’s blood samples. The room was locked from the inside with no signs of struggle apparent. A comprehensive autopsy report is anticipated by Thursday to shed further light on the exact cause of death.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin confirmed that both the United States and Vietnamese embassies have been notified, with the FBI dispatched to aid in the investigation, as reported by The Associated Press. Authorities believe the deaths may be linked to a financial dispute among the victims, who had jointly invested in a project aimed at establishing a hospital in Japan, as revealed during police interviews.
Despite the tragic incident, Deputy Police Chief Noppasin Punsawat assured the public that it was not related to terrorism or a security breach, emphasizing that normal operations at the hotel would proceed as planned. Surveillance footage showed the six individuals entering their room on Monday afternoon, where they remained until their discovery the following day by hotel staff.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to unravel the circumstances surrounding this shocking and tragic event at one of Bangkok’s renowned luxury hotels.
