Fatal Marshfield motorcycle crash death of Alexander Reed – Obituary
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has reported the death of a motorcyclist, identified as 29-year-old Alexander Reed from Elkland, Missouri, following a crash with a Marshfield police officer on Friday evening.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. when the police officer was making an eastward turn onto Spur Drive from Jefferson Street. Reed collided with the driver’s side of the police vehicle, igniting both the motorcycle and the truck. Witnesses confirmed that the officer had a green light at the intersection.
Marshfield Police Chief Doug Fannen stated that the officer sustained burns and minor injuries from the collision and was transported to a hospital in Springfield.
Chief Fannen also noted that Reed was traveling at a high speed on Spur Drive at the time of the accident. It was later discovered that the motorcycle Reed was riding had been stolen, and Reed, a convicted felon, was in possession of a firearm.
According to Chief Fannen, the helmet Reed was wearing matched the description of a motorcyclist who had recently evaded police during a high-speed chase from Marshfield to Springfield.
Following department protocol, the officer involved in the crash underwent drug and alcohol testing at the hospital, with all results coming back negative.
This incident marks the 51st fatal crash recorded by MSHP Troop D in 2024.
