Angel Daniel Salgado Velasquez dies in fatal San Diego crash
Two young boys tragically lost their lives and their mother, along with her friend, sustained severe injuries following a police chase collision in the Mountain View area, as reported by authorities.
The high-speed pursuit began around 6:14 p.m. at the intersection of 32nd Street and Oceanview Boulevard in Logan Heights, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The chase was initiated when Angel Daniel Salgado Velasquez, 20, led officers onto southbound Interstate 805. He then exited the freeway at the 43rd Street off-ramp in his BMW, according to police accounts.
At approximately 6:19 p.m., Velasquez’s BMW collided with a Honda sedan, causing the Honda to veer off the road, crash into a tree, and ignite, as detailed by Officer Salvador Castro of the California Highway Patrol during a news briefing on Friday.
The collision resulted in the death of two young boys, aged four and eight, who were in the Honda. They were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead, confirmed the CHP. The boys’ mother, 25, and her 29-year-old female friend were also hospitalized with serious injuries.
Velasquez, who was alone in the BMW, fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended by authorities.
