Fatal East Baltimore shooting death of Breaunna Cormley – Obituary

In the wake of the tragic shooting that claimed the life of 12-year-old Breaunna Cormley in East Baltimore’s McElderry Park neighborhood, Terry McDonald emerged from his home the following morning. Sitting on his front porch at around 9:30 a.m., he lit a cigarette and looked across the street towards 509 Kenwood Ave., where Breaunna had lived. Recollecting his memories, McDonald shared that Breaunna, who was friends with his daughter, often kept to herself, spending time indoors with her grandmother, and rarely mingling with other children in the area.

According to Baltimore City Police, they received a distressing call around 8 p.m. on Friday reporting a shooting incident involving a 12-year-old girl in the 500 block of North Kenwood Avenue. Police Commissioner Richard Worley, addressing reporters late Friday alongside Mayor Brandon Scott, confirmed that officers found Breaunna inside the residence with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to revive her with CPR, she tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Mayor Brandon Scott expressed profound dismay over the incident, emphasizing the senseless loss of a young life. Commissioner Worley clarified that the shooting was intentional, ruling out any possibility of it being accidental.

Neighbors described Breaunna as reserved, with only a few close friends in the neighborhood. She had recently started attending the National Academy Foundation, a local school serving grades 6 through 12.

On the night of the shooting, McDonald recalled being at home, washing cars, while noting the suspicious presence of a man known to the family. This individual, described as the on-again, off-again boyfriend of Breaunna’s mother, had been seen around the house shortly before the incident.

When Breaunna’s grandmother arrived home and discovered the tragedy, she frantically sought assistance from neighbors, including McDonald’s daughter, Tanisha Robinson, who rushed to the scene to help. Robinson, a nurse’s assistant, attempted CPR but tragically found Breaunna unresponsive.

Police later identified 28-year-old Omar Passmore as the suspect in the shooting. Court records revealed past domestic violence cases involving Passmore, raising further questions about the circumstances leading to Breaunna’s death.

As police continued their investigation, residents in the area expressed shock and grief over the loss of the young girl’s life. Meanwhile, authorities issued a public appeal for information leading to the apprehension of Omar Passmore, who was considered armed and dangerous.

The community mourned the loss of Breaunna Cormley, a young girl whose promising life was cut short by an act of senseless violence.
