The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed a tragic accident in Nteje on Saturday, stating that the incident occurred across from its Unit Command.
The crash involved Chinweuba Chidiebere, who was driving a Toyota Camry with the license plate ABJ125JV, and an unidentified driver operating a Ford Explorer with the plate ZBL626RL.
Margaret Onabe, the acting Public Education Officer for FRSC in Anambra State, reported that the collision resulted in the death of one male adult, while two other male adults were rescued without injury.
The crash took place on July 20, 2024, on the Nteje-Awka-Onitsha Expressway near the FRSC Command in Nteje. According to Onabe, the driver of the Camry lost control and veered into the lane of the Ford Explorer, leading to the fatal collision.
Eyewitnesses indicated that the loss of control by Chidiebere caused the Toyota Camry to drift into the path of the Ford Explorer on the single carriageway. The crash involved three male adults: one was fatally injured, while the other two emerged without harm.
The FRSC rescue team from RS5.3 Nteje quickly transported the deceased to Chira Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, and his body was subsequently taken to New Jerusalem Mortuary in Nteje. The team also managed traffic to clear the obstruction caused by the accident.
Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, extended his condolences to the victim’s family and urged all drivers to remain vigilant and fully attentive while on the road, emphasizing that safety is a collective responsibility.
