Fatal Tofino B.C. plane crash death of Frank Borostyankoi and Chris Biggerstaff – Obituary
Tributes are flooding in online for Frank Borostyankoi and Chris Biggerstaff, who tragically perished in a plane crash earlier this week in Tofino, B.C. The victims, both esteemed veterinarians from California, were close friends returning from their annual fishing expedition in Canada when their small private plane’s engine caught fire during takeoff.
The third individual on the six-seat aircraft was successfully evacuated and transported to a hospital with significant injuries.
“Chris was an exceptional person,” a tribute on the Modoc High School Class of 1982 Facebook page states. “His passion for fishing took him all over, and that’s what he was pursuing in Canada.”
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Borostyankoi,” reads a message from Beach Boulevard Pet Hospital. “He was a skilled surgeon, a wonderful husband and father, a brilliant businessman, and a cherished friend. His absence will be deeply felt.”
Online condolences from various veterinary practices in Southern California highlight that Biggerstaff and Borostyankoi were well-respected orthopedic surgeons in the area.
The crash occurred on the runway at Long Beach Airport shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday. Local RCMP, the Transportation Safety Board, and the BC Coroners Service are all investigating the cause of the tragic accident.
