A 29-year-old man of Indian origin, Gavin Dasaur, was tragically killed in a suspected road rage incident in Indianapolis, Indiana, while his wife witnessed the ordeal. Reports from police and media indicate that Dasaur was gunned down as he and his Mexican wife were driving home.
The shooting took place shortly after 8 p.m. last Tuesday at an intersection on the southeast side of Indianapolis, according to Officer Amanda Hibschman of the Indianapolis Police Department (IMPD). When officers arrived, they found Dasaur lying in the street with at least one gunshot wound.
Dasaur’s wife, Viviana ZaMora, was present at the scene and identified him as the victim. She recounted the harrowing moments: “I held him as he bled out and was waiting for the ambulance,” she told The Indianapolis Star.
Dasaur, originally from Agra, India, had recently married ZaMora on June 29, just over two weeks before his death. Witnesses reported that the confrontation leading to the shooting was a result of a road rage incident between Dasaur, who was driving a black Honda, and another driver in a Chevy truck.
The suspected shooter was apprehended at the scene, but following further investigation and consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, the individual was released, as it was suggested the shooting might have been in self-defense, according to Hibschman.
The IMPD continues to investigate the shooting and the road rage incident. In the midst of her grief, ZaMora condemned the shooting, describing her late husband as a dedicated and generous man who always sought to help others and provide for his family.
Cell phone footage from another driver at the scene captured the final moments of the confrontation. The video shows Dasaur exiting his vehicle, appearing agitated, and approaching the pickup truck while holding a handgun. As he reached the driver’s side, Dasaur struck the truck’s door with the gun. The driver of the pickup then fired three shots from within the vehicle, hitting Dasaur, who fell to the ground. The entire encounter lasted only seven seconds.
