Fatal Irving, Texas Chick-fil-A shooting death of Patricia Portillo and Brayan Alexis Godoy – Obituary
Authorities have identified the two victims of a tragic shooting at a Chick-fil-A in Irving, Texas. The incident occurred on Wednesday when a gunman, now in custody, entered the fast-food restaurant and fatally shot Patricia Portillo, 49, and Brayan Alexis Godoy, 31. Both victims were employed by the restaurant.
Oved Bernardo Mendoza Argueta, 37, has been named as the suspect in this case. According to Irving Police Department spokesperson Anthony Alexander, the shooting appears to have been deliberate rather than a random act of violence. “We do believe this was a targeted incident,” Alexander stated, “and there is no ongoing threat to the public.”
Mendoza Argueta is currently in custody and is subject to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) hold, with the warrant agency being Immigration and Naturalization Service Dallas/Fort Worth.
The local Chick-fil-A owner expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating, “Our hearts are broken by the tragedy that unfolded inside our restaurant on Wednesday. We will greatly miss our two team members. At this time, our focus is on supporting our staff and the families of the victims.”
Police responded to the scene on North MacArthur Boulevard just before 4 p.m. Wednesday, following multiple 911 calls about the shooting. They found two victims inside the restaurant. The cause of the shooting remains under investigation as officials work to determine the motive.
During the manhunt, police released a photograph of Mendoza Argueta and the 1997 Honda 4-door vehicle he was last seen driving. Authorities have confirmed that the shooting was a targeted act and not a random event.
Argueta faces charges of capital murder. The Chick-fil-A location is currently closed, though a reopening date has not been announced. At the time of the shooting, several people were inside the restaurant, but police assured that there is no further threat to the public.
A mother recounted her daughter’s terrifying experience, noting that her daughter, who was at a nearby Taco Bell, called her in distress. “She was crying and saying that people were being shot. It sounded like a car wreck,” the mother said. She described how people were reportedly jumping out of the drive-thru window, highlighting the panic and fear that ensued.
