Authorities report that a Concord woman, aged 53, tragically lost her life when a driver with a suspended license and potentially using a cellphone struck her in Bedford, Massachusetts, on Saturday.
The incident occurred around 3:36 p.m. on Concord Street, where it meets the Reformatory Bike Path. The woman, who was walking her bicycle, was hit by a Volkswagen GTI driven by a 34-year-old man from Billerica. The driver remained at the scene after the collision.
Despite being rushed to Lahey Hospital, the woman was pronounced deceased. Her identity and that of the driver have not been publicly disclosed.
The driver has been cited for the accident, with allegations that he was driving with a suspended license and was possibly using his cellphone. His driving record was flagged by the Registry of Motor Vehicles, and he is scheduled to appear in Concord District Court.
