The tragic incident occurred late Sunday night (July 7) at the intersection of 89th and Langley in Chicago, according to Channel 3 Now. Lil Scoom89, 18, was found with two gunshot wounds to the chest and was rushed to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Chicago Police Department (CPD) responded to the shooting and pursued a suspect who was seen fleeing the scene and firing at officers. The intense pursuit, involving a 10-1 emergency call for immediate backup, led to a response from multiple police districts and the CPD SWAT team, but the suspect remains at large.
Simultaneously, CPD investigated another shooting at 87th and Calumet, where a 16-year-old boy with gunshot wounds to his thighs was found in an Uber. He was also transported to the University of Chicago. According to reports, the teenager and Lil Scoom89 had been involved in an altercation with an unknown individual, which escalated into violence.
