Richard Pusey, a 41-year-old Melbourne mortgage broker, has been identified as the driver involved in the fatal truck crash that claimed the lives of four Victoria Police officers.
Pusey was apprehended more than 12 hours after allegedly fleeing the scene of the collision.
The incident occurred when Pusey’s Porsche, initially stopped for speeding at 140km/h on the Eastern Freeway, was later involved in a tragic crash. Pusey, who tested positive for drugs, abandoned his vehicle after a truck barreled into the officers who were on the roadside.
After turning himself in to authorities on Thursday morning, Pusey is now under interrogation by homicide detectives. He is reported to have taken photographs of the aftermath and shared them on social media.
The truck driver, who suffered a medical episode and lost consciousness following the crash, remains hospitalized under police supervision. Authorities conducted a search of the truck driver’s residence in Cranbourne late Wednesday but have yet to disclose their findings.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision continues, with a coronial inquiry set to commence. The truck company involved has been approached for a statement, though they have not yet responded.
