A man from Woodburn is now facing a driving under the influence charge following an early Sunday morning collision that resulted in one fatality and left another person seriously injured.
The accident occurred around 2:09 a.m. on July 21 on Interstate 5 near milepost 222, according to Oregon State Police.
Troopers reported that a Lexus GS, driven by Isael Garcia, 23, of Woodburn, collided with the rear of a Toyota Camry heading in the same direction.
The impact caused significant damage, leading to the severe injury of the Toyota’s driver, who was transported to a local hospital. The Toyota’s passenger, Scott Alan Palmer, 53, from Camarillo, California, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Garcia sustained only minor injuries and was treated on-site before being taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. The crash investigation disrupted traffic on the highway for approximately six hours, and authorities continue to probe the incident.
