Beginning his tenure with the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office in 2009, VanHuss advanced to the role of Deputy within two years and achieved the rank of Corporal in 2013. He was subsequently promoted to Sergeant later that same year. His recent promotion to Sergeant II occurred on July 15, just a week before the tragic incident.
