A man has been arrested for the shooting death of his estranged girlfriend, Yvonne Abernathy, in St. Petersburg on July 16, according to police reports.
Jerome Isom, 36, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of first-degree murder for the killing of 25-year-old Yvonne Abernathy.
The St. Petersburg Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the Reserve at Lake Pointe Apartments on Lynn Lake Drive South around 6 a.m. following a call about the incident.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Abernathy, who had been shot in the hallway outside her apartment. She was pronounced dead from her injuries at the scene. The police confirmed that Abernathy resided in the complex and that she was shot by Isom.
Authorities noted that Abernathy and Isom had a history of domestic violence.
Isom is currently incarcerated in South Florida on unrelated charges from the Florida Highway Patrol and the Miami Beach Police Department. He will be extradited to Pinellas County to face the murder charge.
