Fatal Piedmont Triad hit-and-run death of Alicia Cearley – Obituary
Authorities have identified the victim of a tragic hit-and-run in the Piedmont Triad as Alicia Cearley, age 36, from Burlington.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning at approximately 4:08 a.m. when officers were dispatched to South Church Street and Glendale Avenue following reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian and fleeing the scene.
Emergency responders from Alamance County EMS and the Burlington Fire Department arrived to find Cearley, who was pronounced dead at the location.
In related news, the Mebane community is grieving the loss of a retired firefighter due to a recent accident outside her residence.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Irma Hernandez, 51, also from Burlington.
Hernandez has been charged with several offenses including driving without a license, felony hit-and-run causing death, and speeding. She was released after signing a written promise to appear in court.
