Ayden Beeson, a talented tennis and football player who had recently been crowned prom king and graduated high school, has tragically passed away in a drowning incident.

The 17-year-old from Iowa is being remembered fondly as a “tremendous kid” following his death earlier this week at Rathbun Lake near Moravia.

According to the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office, emergency services were alerted shortly after 6 p.m. local time on Wednesday when a report came in about a male swimmer who had disappeared underwater.

A dive team recovered Ayden’s body about an hour later in approximately 15 to 20 feet of water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tyler Baze, Ayden’s tennis coach at Centerville High School, praised him on Facebook, stating, “Ayden was the kind of kid every teacher and coach admires.

He was incredibly kind and dedicated, giving his all both in the classroom and on the field.” Baze noted that Ayden was the only player in recent years to consistently rank in the top 6 of the conference throughout all four years of high school.
