Fatal Meriden shooting death of Beth Ndwiga – Obituary
City authorities have named Beth Ndwiga, a 28-year-old woman, as the victim in Meriden’s first homicide of the year.
According to a statement released by Lt. Darrin McKay of the Meriden Police Department, Ndwiga was tragically shot on Monday night.
Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of State Street around 10:10 p.m. following reports of an altercation and gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Ndwiga with gunshot wounds, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, the Meriden Green was cordoned off for investigation, though it was reopened by noon on Tuesday.
Investigators shifted their focus to the initial blocks of West Main Street. The closure led to disruptions in traffic, with the city’s train station and bus services halted until 3 a.m.
In his Tuesday evening update, McKay mentioned that detectives traced a potential witness residing at 35 West Main St., in an apartment on the second floor. This individual was believed to have been with an unidentified male during the shooting.
As the weapon used in the shooting remains missing, police have taken extensive measures to ensure public safety, including evacuating nearby buildings, blocking off streets, and redirecting traffic.
