An arrest has been made in connection with a shooting outside an East Side bar that resulted in the death of a Fort Bliss soldier and injured another.

Kwesi Nataniel Bacchus, 22, was taken into custody on a murder charge and is being held on a $1 million bond at the El Paso County Jail, as reported by El Paso Police Department officials on Wednesday, July 24.

Bacchus’s booking photo has not been made public as the homicide investigation is ongoing.

The shooting occurred around 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, in the parking lot in front of Legendz Bar & Grill, located at The Pavillions II retail strip on Zaragoza Road near Vista Del Sol Drive.

The deceased soldier, identified as Pfc. Manuel Rivera-Pohl, 24, served as an AH-64D Apache helicopter crew chief. He succumbed to his injuries that night at The Hospitals of Providence East Campus, according to a statement from Fort Bliss.

The other soldier involved, Jermaine Jeron Fagin, 26, was also at the scene but was treated at a hospital and later released. Both soldiers were members of the 1st Armored Division.

At the time of the shooting, police officers in the area responded to the sound of gunfire near 1610 N. Zaragoza Road. Officers were behind a white Dodge Charger when the shooting occurred, and they observed Rivera-Pohl and Fagin on the ground as the vehicle passed by. Despite attempts to stop the Charger, it fled the scene.

The incident was captured on the patrol vehicle’s camera. Additionally, two other individuals, Christopher Gianni Moore, 19, and Jalen Jeremiah Griffin, 19, were reported as victims, though details about their injuries have not been disclosed.

Fort Bliss officials have expressed their support for the affected families. “The thoughts and prayers of every Iron Soldier are with the family, friends, and teammates of Pfc. Rivera-Pohl during this difficult time,” said Maj. Gen.

Curtis Taylor, commanding general of the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss. He emphasized the commitment to providing support and resources to those impacted by the tragedy.
