Fatal Skaggs Bridge Park drowning death of Maria Dolores – Obituary
Maria Dolores, 47, from Fresno, tragically drowned over the weekend at Skaggs Bridge Park near Kerman, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office reported on Monday. Dolores was wading into the San Joaquin River around 4 p.m. on Sunday while holding hands with her husband.
As they reached a spot where the riverbed drops to approximately 12 feet deep, Dolores lost her footing and slipped underwater. Being unable to swim, she did not resurface, according to deputies.
Emergency responders from Madera and Fresno counties, along with an American Ambulance rescue team, arrived at the scene around 4:30 p.m. Despite their efforts, Dolores was found in the water but was unfortunately beyond saving.
One of the divers involved in the search needed medical attention after leaving the river, according to rescuers.
