Fatal Charles County crash death of Norma Matthews – Obituary
Maryland State Police have identified the individuals involved in a tragic collision in Charles County on Wednesday. The victims were 81-year-old Norma Matthews from Lowell, Massachusetts, and 86-year-old Virginia Licata from Blackwood, New Jersey.
The incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Route 301 and Popes Creek Road in Faulkner. According to preliminary reports, Matthews was operating a Toyota Camry and attempting to cross Route 301 when her vehicle was struck by a Chevrolet.
Matthews was pronounced dead at the scene, while Licata, a passenger in the Toyota, was airlifted to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was also transported to the hospital, though her current condition is not known.
The crash led to road closures for several hours, but the area has since been cleared. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
