On Tuesday, emergency responders were dispatched to the popular waterfall after reports surfaced that the two men had not resurfaced from the water.
The two victims, both in their 20s, were identified as the individuals who lost their lives during their visit to the scenic spot.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to assist with their funeral expenses, acknowledging the profound impact of their loss on their families, who are said to be devastated.
The GoFundMe page describes the situation as a profound tragedy, stating, “Their sudden loss has created a gap that cannot be filled.” The campaign seeks to ease the financial strain of the funeral costs and provide some comfort to the bereaved families during this challenging time.
Queensland Police have reported that three men were swimming at the falls when one began to struggle in the water.
The second man tried to help but was also caught in distress. In light of the incident, the Telugu Association of Australia Inc has advised visitors to be cautious and fully aware of their surroundings when swimming.
The campaign has quickly gained momentum, nearing its $90,000 goal within a day of its launch.
The association has urged the public to contribute and share the campaign to support the grieving families, emphasizing that every contribution, no matter how small, will help provide solace during this sorrowful period.
