In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, two tragic shooting incidents involving gas station clerks have been attributed to the same individual, 21-year-old Davonta Mathis from Waco, who now faces numerous charges, including two counts of capital murder.
On Thursday night, around 11:05 p.m., Mesquite police responded to a call about a shooting at a gas station located on the 1700 block of West Bruton Road.
There, officers discovered Muhammad Hussain, a 60-year-old resident of Carrollton, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Hussain was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Surveillance footage from the scene provided crucial details about the suspect’s vehicle, leading to significant progress in the investigation, according to Mesquite police.
Just two days later, on Saturday around 12:30 a.m., Dallas police were alerted to another shooting at a gas station on the 8600 block of Lake June Road.
The suspect, later identified as Mathis, entered the store, approached the counter, and fatally shot 32-year-old Gopi Krishna Dasari. Dasari was taken to a local hospital in critical condition but unfortunately died the following day.
Following both shootings, Mathis reportedly stole items and attempted, unsuccessfully, to break into the cash registers before fleeing the scene.
A Mesquite officer soon spotted the suspect vehicle and pursued Mathis, leading to his arrest.
Initially charged with evading arrest, Mathis’s charges were later upgraded to murder after further investigation confirmed his involvement in Hussain’s death and linked him to Dasari’s killing.
