Moorhead Police have detained a suspect in relation to a deadly shooting that occurred this week.
Authorities report that 35-year-old Jamal Ahmed is currently in custody at the Clay County Correctional Facility, facing charges of Felony Second-Degree Murder.
On July 24, around 3:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 900 Block of 18th St. S following a shooting report.
Upon arrival, they discovered 37-year-old Franky Torres with a gunshot wound to the head. Torres was transported to Sanford Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to police, Torres and Ahmed were in the company of mutual acquaintances when the shooting took place. With support from the Red River Valley SWAT Team, officers located and arrested Ahmed without any complications.
The firearm, described as a pistol by the police, has yet to be recovered. Moorhead Police Department assures that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The incident remains under investigation, with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Apprehension.
