Homicide investigators have identified the man who was fatally stabbed in Surrey on Tuesday night as 47-year-old Jason Richard Gill. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) released this information on Thursday in hopes of advancing their inquiry.
Gill was attacked with multiple stab wounds during an altercation on King George Boulevard near 66 Avenue at approximately 11:50 p.m. Tuesday. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported seeing an individual fleeing the area post-incident, but no arrests have been made yet. IHIT noted in their statement that the preliminary investigation indicates a confrontation between the victim and the suspect, although the relationship between the two and the motive remain unclear.
Authorities do not believe the incident is connected to the ongoing B.C. gang conflict. The suspect has been described as a clean-shaven white male, approximately six feet tall, with short, sandy-colored blond hair.
Cpl. Esther Tupper from IHIT mentioned that the investigation is still in its early phases and urged anyone who saw a person matching the suspect’s description in the vicinity around the time of the stabbing to come forward.
Police are also requesting any video footage from the 6600 block of King George Boulevard recorded between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 3 a.m. Wednesday.
