A preliminary autopsy has been completed for 19-year-old Jay Slater, whose body was discovered on the Spanish island of Tenerife.
The search for the teenager, who had been missing since June 17 while vacationing with friends, concluded in heartbreak as his body was found just meters from his last known location in Rural de Teno park.
The search lasted 29 days, and hopes of finding Jay alive were sadly dashed.
Officials initially cautioned that identifying the body and determining the cause of death might take time due to its deteriorated state.
However, the autopsy has revealed that Jay’s death was likely caused by a fall or plunge from a height, as indicated by the numerous broken bones found on his body.
A spokesperson from the Civil Guard confirmed that Jay had been identified through fingerprint comparison.
The preliminary findings suggest that his injuries were consistent with a fatal fall. A source has indicated that Jay’s family has found some solace in the possibility that his death may have been instantaneous.
