According to Hancock Police Chief Tami Sleeman, Kemppainen was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside his Quincy Township residence on Monday, July 22.

The police chief also noted that Kemppainen had no previous encounters with local law enforcement.

The victim, an 80-year-old man, was released from the hospital on Wednesday evening and is expected to continue his recovery at home. He sustained severe injuries during the incident and had been initially admitted in critical condition.

During one of these incidents, he ran over the elderly man who was placing a political sign in his yard. Additionally, two vehicles were vandalized, according to Sleeman.

On the following day, Kemppainen contacted the police to confess his involvement in the crimes and requested that they come to his residence.

When officers arrived at his Quincy Township home, they found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
