Investigators have identified a body discovered near Smithville Lake as Josiah Papa, a 25-year-old from Leavenworth.
The Smithville, Missouri, Police Department confirmed on Thursday, July 25, that the remains found on Sunday, July 21, belonged to Papa.
The investigation into his death is ongoing, with no additional details released as of Thursday.
Authorities were alerted to a wooded area near NE 194th Terrace on July 21, where Papa’s body was located over a mile from the lake, obscured by dense foliage.
Initially, the police obtained a search warrant for a nearby residence and conducted a search, but no arrests have been made.
Papa had been reported missing by the Leavenworth, Kansas, Police Department on July 12, and had last been seen in Smithville, expressing intentions of self-harm.
