Authorities have identified the individual who was fatally shot by deputies earlier this week.
On Tuesday afternoon, law enforcement responded to a residence on Carver Street as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.
During the incident, Deputy observed 36-year-old Justin Barrett McCarrell, who was armed. The deputy then discharged multiple rounds at McCarrell.
McCarrell was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries from the gunfire.
An autopsy conducted on Wednesday classified McCarrell’s death as a homicide.
In response, the deputies involved are now on administrative leave while an internal review of the shooting takes place. This includes the deputy who discharged their weapon.
Further details, including body camera footage, are expected to be released late next month.
