PEOPLE has confirmed that Kayla Bailey, daughter of Basketball Wives star Brooke Bailey, tragically passed away following a car accident.
The Memphis Police Department reported that Kayla, 25, and Julius Weaver, 38, were involved in a deadly collision with a tractor-trailer early Sunday morning around 4 a.m. on a highway near Hollywood, Tennessee.
According to a statement from the MPD, “Vehicle #1, heading east on I-40, collided with the rear of Vehicle #2, which was stopped in the traffic lane due to a previous crash. Both the driver and passenger of Vehicle #1 were declared dead at the scene.”
Local news outlet WREG first broke the story, revealing details from the police report about the accident.
Shortly after the incident, Brooke Bailey, 45, shared the heartbreaking news of her daughter’s death on Instagram.
“Forever my baby, Pretty Black aka Kayla Nicole Bailey 💜🕊💔 This is not a goodbye,” Brooke posted with a series of photos of Kayla. “Mommy will see you soon 🙏🏾.”
In her Instagram Story, Brooke expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support she received. “My baby girl is so loved by all of you!!! The love and support my family has received today is unreal and deeply appreciated.”
She continued, “Thank you! Kayla made a significant impact on everyone she met. Her presence demanded respect, love, and attention.”
Brooke also shared her personal struggle, noting that she had been “fasting and praying for days,” initially thinking it was for another reason. “It was God preparing me for this moment in my life. Though I wasn’t ready, I’m thankful for the 25 years I was blessed to have her. She was my joy on earth.”
On Wednesday, Brooke thanked everyone for their support during this difficult time, saying on her Instagram Story, “Thank you for your prayers, kind messages, and love. I wish I could respond to each and every one of you personally.”
