Mario Bonilla, a 55-year-old Weston resident, was fatally shot by Miami police in Little Havana after officers responded to reports of him firing a gun into the air and at a building, according to Telemundo.
The incident took place around 1:00 p.m. at SW 5th Avenue and SW 3rd Street, near Interstate 95 in Miami, as noted by local police chief Manny Morales.
Officers arrived at the scene after a 911 call and found Bonilla discharging a firearm. During the ensuing confrontation, police fired their weapons, resulting in Bonilla’s death. No injuries were reported among the officers.

This incident marks one of several cases this year involving fatal police shootings in Miami. In February, police shot and killed a man reported missing and endangered during a standoff at an apartment complex in Weston, South Florida.
The deceased in that February case was identified as Mario Bonilla, 55, a resident of Weston. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), deputies responded to reports of a suspicious person shortly after 9 a.m.
BSO spokesperson Veda Coleman-Wright explained, “When deputies found the individual, he exited his vehicle with a weapon. He was ordered to drop the gun but did not comply. Instead, he advanced toward the officers, prompting one deputy to open fire.” Bonilla was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified by authorities.
