Fatal Kimberley helicopter crash death of Peter Ritter and Gavin U’Ren – Obituary

Peter Ritter, aged 29, and Gavin U’Ren, aged 30, were the two pilots who lost their lives in a devastating helicopter collision on Thursday morning in the Kimberley region. The crash occurred near Derby at a cattle station.

Emergency crews quickly responded to the incident at Mt Anderson Station in Camballin, located approximately 120 kilometers south of Derby.

WA Police and emergency services arrived at the scene around 6:20 a.m. Preliminary reports indicate that the two helicopters, which were engaged in cattle mustering, collided shortly after taking off.

It appears that one of the helicopters caught fire upon impact with the ground. Each aircraft had only the pilot on board, and both Peter Ritter and Gavin U’Ren were pronounced dead at the scene due to their injuries.

The families of the deceased have been informed of the tragedy. Both pilots were employed by Pearl Coast Helicopters, a Broome-based company specializing in aerial stock mustering.
