Authorities have identified Anthony J. Previte, a 29-year-old resident of Kensington, who was fatally shot on July 22 following a prolonged standoff with police at a residence on Olivia Lane.
Previte was reportedly armed when he was shot in an incident involving law enforcement, as confirmed by the state attorney general’s office.
The confrontation began after officers responded to a mental health call from the previous evening. At around 12:05 p.m. on July 22, Kensington police were alerted about a man in the home who was allegedly threatening another resident.
In response, the Seacoast Emergency Response Team and the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit were deployed, leading to a multi-hour standoff.
Authorities advised the community to remain indoors due to the presence of a potentially barricaded individual with a firearm.
The standoff continued until shortly after 10:30 p.m., when six police officers fired their weapons, and one officer used a less-lethal munition during an encounter with Previte. Despite efforts to administer first aid on the scene, Previte succumbed to his injuries.
On Friday, Chief Medical Examiner Jennie V. Duval conducted an autopsy and determined that Previte died from gunshot wounds to the head and chest, ruling the manner of death as homicide.
The term “homicide” in this context refers to one person’s death caused by another.
The New Hampshire Department of Justice, with the aid of the New Hampshire State Police Major Crimes Unit, is continuing its investigation into the incident. The names of the officers involved in the shooting will be withheld until formal interviews are completed, which are anticipated within the next five to ten business days.
The state’s attorney general’s office stated that the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting remains active.
