Jeffrey Poorman dies in fatal Long Beach shooting

Fatal Long Beach shooting death of Jeffrey Poorman – Obituary

A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of Jeffrey Poorman in Long Beach. Mathew De Diego, the accused, is scheduled for arraignment on August 8, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The charges relate to a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday, where De Diego is alleged to have personally used and discharged a handgun. The incident took place on the 5900 block of Lime Avenue, just east of Atlantic Avenue, at around 1:30 p.m.

Long Beach Police responded to reports of multiple gunshots and found Poorman suffering from numerous gunshot wounds inside his garage. Despite immediate medical efforts from police officers and subsequent aid from Long Beach Fire Department personnel, the 44-year-old Poorman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe that De Diego and Poorman were acquainted and that the shooting occurred during their interaction. The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation. De Diego was apprehended near the 5000 block of Gardenia Avenue by Special Investigations Division detectives.
