Fatal San Antonio hotel assault death of Thomas Weaver Jr. – Obituary
In a tragic incident at a downtown San Antonio hotel, 42-year-old Thomas Weaver Jr. has died after being attacked by a group of individuals. The San Antonio Police Department reported that Weaver was discovered unconscious with severe head injuries in front of the Grand Hyatt Hotel on East Market Street around 1 a.m. on July 14. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries eight days later.
Authorities obtained surveillance footage from the hotel that depicted Weaver walking behind a group of six people before being surrounded and assaulted by three members of the group. The footage identified 18-year-old Jeremy James Obregon as one of the attackers who struck Weaver in the face. As a result, Weaver fell backward and hit his head on the pavement, with Obregon delivering another blow while Weaver was on the ground. There was no prior interaction between Weaver and the group before the assault.
Following the release of the surveillance video, police received multiple tips that led to Obregon’s identification and arrest. He faces a manslaughter charge and was subsequently released on a $50,000 bond. Obregon is currently under partial house arrest, which permits him to attend church and school.
