Two young Australian women, Brooke Sorlie and Charlie Quinn, were tragically identified as victims in a devastating car crash that claimed the lives of three young individuals over the weekend.
The incident occurred on Sunday at the intersection of Bungendore and Collector roads in Tarago, a small town in the NSW Southern Tablelands. Police reported that the vehicle the group was traveling in veered off the road, rolled over, and came to a stop on its roof.
Trapped inside the severely damaged vehicle, Brooke Sorlie, 21, and Charlie Quinn, 18, were pronounced dead at the scene. A 20-year-old man also lost his life in the crash.
The driver, a 21-year-old man, managed to escape the wreckage with minor injuries. Authorities confirmed that no charges had been filed at this time.
Sorlie, Quinn, and the young man who died were all believed to be from the Shoalhaven region. Tributes poured in on social media as their identities were revealed.
“Condolences to Brooke’s family. A smart young lady gone too soon. This has truly come as a shock for us all,” wrote a loved one of Sorlie. “I just got a phone call two hours ago — totally devastated,” another expressed.
“Taken but never forgotten,” shared another mourner. A friend described Brooke Sorlie as someone who “always had time for anyone” and was “loved by everyone with a contagious smile.”
A first responder to the scene recounted hearing the anguished screams of one of the men involved, who begged her to save his girlfriend. “They were unconscious. We were giving them CPR but it just wouldn’t work. It was awful,” she told Daily Mail Australia.
“One girl was still trapped in the car — the driver’s girlfriend. I can still hear his screams. He was screaming to try and get in the car to get his girlfriend out.”
Criticism of the road conditions in the area emerged online, with people calling the stretch “one of the worst roads” with “patched potholes everywhere.” Another person noted that “it’s been shocking for years,” arguing that “it’s not fair that the roads are in this condition.”
