The search covered 2,100 square nautical miles through 26 missions before the Coast Guard called it off.
Cmdr. Xochitl Castaneda of the Coast Guard expressed deep sorrow, stating, “Our hearts go out to all those who have lost loved ones in this tragic event.”
Joanne Mera, along with Jason Winters, Patricia Hicks, Sandra Williams, Lauren Hilty, Ross Mickel, Luke Ludwig, Rebecca Ludwig, Gabrielle Hanna, and child Remy Mickel, perished in the crash. Only one body has been recovered, and its identity has not been revealed.
