Virginia State Police have confirmed the death of a motorcyclist in a tragic collision that occurred Tuesday morning in Augusta County.

Terri L. Smith, a 57-year-old resident of Crimora, was riding a 2024 Kawasaki Eliminator motorcycle southbound on U.S. 340 around 6:30 a.m. when a 1994 Ford F-450 traveling in the opposite direction veered into Smith’s lane, leading to a head-on collision, according to Sgt. S. Gregory of the Virginia State Police.

“The point of impact occurred in the southbound lane,” Gregory noted.

The accident took place in the 700 block of U.S. 340 in Dooms.

Smith died at the scene from the injuries sustained in the crash.

A third vehicle attempted to avoid the collision and ended up driving over debris from the accident, Sgt. Gregory added.

The Ford truck, which was towing a 2009 Dodge Challenger, is being inspected for a potential mechanical failure that may have contributed to the crash. The driver of the truck, a 44-year-old man from Broadway, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
